Ya sas (Hi)! I am Sonia!
Cooking is my passion, and I like spending my time in the kitchen, tweaking recipes, and creating new ones.
I was born, raised, and living in Greece until I met my late husband and moved to the United States many years ago. Now, I am the single mother of a beautiful, bilingual little girl whom I try to teach the language, customs, and cultural heritage of my birthplace.
When I was little, I spent many summers in Crete with my grandmother,
from whom I learned a lot about cooking and the local Cretan cuisine. You may know that Cretan food is one the healthiest on Earth!
My mother, who has roots from the island of Cephalonia, loved cooking and entertaining, and I always found myself in her kitchen serving and helping her. She has been making a variety of recipes from other countries’ cuisine, not only Greek recipes. Later, I started experimenting in the kitchen by altering the original recipes, giving them a new flair and personal touch.
I have traveled extensively across Europe and the Mediterranean, and I always made a point to taste the local traditional cooking as part of their culture.
I had many friends tell me that I should open a restaurant, but that would strip me of quality time to spend with my family. I thought that having this blog would be as much a fun way to share my passion for cooking while it allows me to spend time with my beautiful daughter Konstantina.
So, I started exploring and photographing the dishes my friends and family always loved and added a few more, steering away from the “bad” ingredients and sticking to the Greek and, in general, Mediterranean flavors and cooking.
